PyData Diversity & Inclusion
NumFOCUS welcomes and encourages participation in our community by people of all backgrounds and identities. We are committed to promoting and sustaining a culture that values mutual respect, tolerance, and learning, and we work together as a community to help each other live out these values.
For a more detailed explication of NumFOCUS’s position on diversity in the community, see our Diversity Appendix.
Diversity Scholarships
Every PyData conference offers diversity scholarships. These cover the cost of registration to help support attendance by individuals who couldn’t otherwise participate. To apply for a PyData diversity scholarship, visit the website of the specific event you wish to attend.
Diversity & Inclusion at Conference and Events
All PyData organizing committees are required to have a Diversity Chair, whose role is to ensure that the conference is doing appropriate outreach to attract a diverse audience and speaker lineup and to work to ensure that all attendees feel welcome and included. Diversity chairs generally rely on the DISCOVER Cookbook for guidance on how to create a diverse and inclusive event. We welcome community contributions to the cookbook!
Diversity & Inclusion in Scientific Computing (DISC)
NumFOCUS invites the PyData community to get involved and learn more about DISC initiatives by joining the DISC community mailing list. You can also read more about the DISC Program on the NumFOCUS website and by exploring the DISC pages on the NumFOCUS wiki.
Code of Conduct
PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS and thus abides by the NumFOCUS Code of Conduct.
To file a Code of Conduct report, please fill out this form.
We value the participation of each member of the PyData community and want all attendees to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Accordingly, all attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees throughout the conference and at all conference events, whether officially sponsored by PyData or not. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. For detailed information on code of conduct enforcement at PyData, you can read the Code of Conduct Response and Enforcement Manual for NumFOCUS Events and Meetups here.
