Description

Intersection of artificial intelligence and art world is an intriguing concept. I will show several examples of this intersection, with the focus on the AI based "Museum Treasures" game, a winning solution from the HackArt: a hackathon organised by the National Museum in Warsaw. I will also touch on the topic of analogies between creative processes and machine learning processes.

Abstract

Recent developments in the field of deep learning brought to our attention questions on how artificial intelligence may impact art world, how it can be used by the artists, or whether it can be considered creative.

Firstly, I would like to share some examples of this intriguing intersection, with the special focus on a recent project that I was involved in: Museum Treasures, a concept of a game for kids & parents, a scavenger hunt, combining art history and AI. This is a winning solution from this year’s HackArt hackathon organised by the National Museum of Warsaw. The game uses object detection applied to digitalised paintings, and in more advanced version it can also apply models generating contexts. I would like to discuss the concept of the game from the point of use of the machine learning models.

Secondly, I would like to touch on the subject of analogies between creative processes and machine learning processes. By showing some intriguing analogies between these two and potential venues to develop, I would like to ask the question on how AI can help us better understand the nature of our creativity.
