Michael Droettboom is the original author of the airspeed velocity benchmarking tool, the Gamera toolkit for document image recognition, and is a former lead developer of matplotlib. He has worked on telescopes and microscopes at STScI and NIH. He currently works as a data engineer for Mozilla, where, among other things, he is porting the PyData stack to run inside web browsers.
