I'm a plant biologist currently doing my PhD with native tree species from Patagonia. I come from Buenos Aires, but since my PhD started I live in Bariloche, the biggest city in north-western Patagonia. As part of my project I sequenced the transcriptome (i.e., the collection of all expressed genes in a given condition) at two different temperatures of Nothofagus pumilio (common name: Lenga), the most abundant tree in the Patagonian forest, in order to study the effect of high temperatures in this important species, in a context of global climate change. Given my interest in programming and the scarce bioinformatic resources for working with non-model species, I taught myself Python and started developing new tools to explore and get the most out of my data.
