Kerstin Kleese van Dam is the director of the Computational Science Initiative (CSI) at the Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), on Long Island, NY. With 100PB BNL hosts the second largest scientific data archive in the US and the fourth largest in the world, it processes annually in access of 400PB of scientific results. CSI conducts leading edge computer science and applied mathematics research to address the associated analysis challenges, specific focus areas are machine learning, visual analytics and programming models. Before she joined BNL Kerstin was associated division director at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Director of Computing at University College London Medical School and Data Management Group Lead at the Science and Technology Facilities Council in the UK.
