Making your first open source contribution

James Powell, Adrin Jalali, Matti Lyra

Audience level:
Novice

Description

This session will encourage and assist attendees in making their first contribution to an open source project.

Abstract

For many contributors to popular open source projects, their first contribution was something minor—a documentation patch, a small bug fix, a simple question on a Github issue or a mailing list. The content of these contributions was less important than making the contribution itself.

This session seeks to help attendees overcome the barrier of their first public contribution to an open source project with the goal of encouraging attendees to be more comfortable with the collaborative process itself.
