PyData Seattle 2023

PYDATA SEATTLE IS CONTINUATION OF OUR CONFERENCE SERIES. WE HOPE TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LISTEN, LEARN, AND SHARE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT BEST PRACTICES, NEW APPROACHES, AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES FOR DATA MANAGEMENT, PROCESSING, ANALYTICS, AND VISUALIZATION.

Conference Overview

We welcome attendees with wide varieties of experiences, expertise, and backgrounds to create a diverse and compelling learning opportunity. Users, contributors, and newcomers can share experiences and learn from one another to solve hard problems and grow a stronger community.

Presentations will be given live with opportunities for questions and answers to facilitate a more engaging experience and a deeper discussion. Presentations will come in a variety of formats, such as workshops, talks, and panel discussions to create diverse learning experiences.

About PyData

PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. PyData provides a forum for the international community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The global PyData network promotes discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. PyData communities approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R.

We aim to be an accessible, community-driven conference, with novice to advanced level presentations. PyData tutorials and talks bring attendees the latest project features along with cutting-edge use cases.

NumFOCUS

The mission of NumFOCUS is to promote sustainable high-level programming languages, open code development, and reproducible scientific research. We accomplish this mission through our educational programs and events as well as through fiscal sponsorship of open source scientific computing projects. We aim to increase collaboration and communication within the data science and scientific computing community.

NumFOCUS is a 501(c)3 public charity in the United States.

Eloisa is a Data Scientist and Tech Community Organizer of PyData by NumFOCUS, PyLadies and Women Techmakers Seattle. Founder of Women in Data Science conferences in the Seattle area. As an active member of our tech community, Elo collaborates with multiple nonprofit tech organizations and enterprises to promote diversity and inclusion programs to support women in the field.

Early stage investor in deeptech companies, Don's investment focus is devtools, products for AI, cloud, and solutions that enhance productivity of developers and data professionals. He is a board observer of Farseer and Wilderness Labs. His fund Apertu Capital invested in Anaconda, the OS for AI with over 40m users. Designated as a Fellow of the Python Software Foundation as of 2017. Produced Startup Row for PyCon, this effort featured over 100 early stage startups at the conference. Program included Docker and OfferUp. Sold web’s first online therapy site to ValueOptions, then the country’s largest MBHO.

I am happy to have the opportunity to share my passion and expertise with our great Division of Continuing Education students. I have spent my career focused on data intensive analysis and large-scale computing. My varied career in technology has allowed me to dive into many application areas.

Kevin was a data scientist for four years before working on open-source data tooling. He is a co-author of the Fugue project, an abstraction layer for distributed computing. Most recently, he was an Open Source Community Engineer at Prefect, a workflow orchestration management system.

Pierre is a co-founder, CEO of Noteable. Pierre Brunelle led Amazon’s notebook initiatives both for internal use as well as for SageMaker. He also worked on many open source initiatives including a standard for Data Quality work and an open source collaboration between Amazon and UC Berkeley to advance AI and machine learning. Pierre helped launch the first Amazon online car leasing store in Europe. At Amazon Pierre also launched a Price Elasticity Service and pushed investments in Probabilistic Programming Frameworks. And Pierre represented Amazon on many occasions to teach Machine Learning or at conferences such as NeurIPS. Pierre also writes about Time in Organization Studies. Pierre holds an MS in Building Engineering from ESTP Paris and an MRes in Decision Sciences and Risk Management from Arts et Métiers ParisTech.

Raven is the VP of Operations at OpenTeams Incubator and is passionate about fostering economic development by promoting and supporting the formation and growth of companies that commercially develop new technologies, products, and services that rely on open source licensed software. In her current role, she helps start, grow, and sustain open source software communities (both company backed and community driven) and the companies and entrepreneurs that emerge from them. She is a current member of the Salt Lake City PyData Meetup and member of the PyData Seattle 2023 conference organizing committee.

Steven is the marketing committee chair for PyData Global 2022, along with the marketing team for JuliaCon. His primary interest is cybersecurity but he discovered the PyData community while looking for meetups during the height of the lockdowns and decided to become a permanent fixture in it.

Mike is a Software Engineer at Google who works on GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine) and contributes to open source projects, mainly in the Kubernetes organization.

Conduct

PyData has an engaged and respectful community made up of people from all over the world. We are committed to creating a productive, professional, and inclusive environment for everyone. All community members are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees throughout the conference, all conference events and online forums. Our code of conduct is strictly enforced.
