NumFOCUS Women in Technology Workshop for High School Girls

As part of PyData NYC’s diversity initiative, we are proud to be holding a free Women in Technology Workshop for high school girls. The workshop, made possible through NumFOCUS and the generous sponsorship of JP Morgan, hopes to increase awareness and excitement around opportunities for women in software engineering. We have 49 confirmed attendees from 4 area high schools. The workshop will be held in conjunction with Tutorials on Friday, Nov. 8th. The full-day will include hands-on workshops and demos, where young women will be exposed to a variety of examples which display the fun, power, and possibilities from programming in Python. The day will also include a panel, where female software engineers and attendees can discuss how Python, and programming in general, is influencing and shaping the working world.

Keynotes Announced

We are excited to announce that Peter Wang and Brian Granger will be the Keynote Speakers for PyData NYC 2013!

Peter is the Co-Founder and President of Continuum Analytics and one of the forces behind the creation of the first PyData event. Brian is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Cal Poly State University and a core developer of the IPython project. We look forward to the exciting new insights and perspectives their talks will bring to PyData.
