PyData NYC 2012

October 26–27, 2012

Hack-a-thon Sunday 9AM-3PM

Our Sunday event will be a mix of Hack-a-thon, Birds of a Feather meetings, and Sprint sessions, involving most of the speakers/teachers from the PyData event itself. Think of it as a glorified, all-day hallway track! We will have time for some additional lightning talks as well, in case we run out of time for them during the conference itself.

Best of all, the Hack-a-thon is COMPLETELY FREE!

We welcome everyone and anyone to join us, whether to learn how to solve a particular problem, meet the authors of your favorite Python/Scipy/PyData libraries, or just generally geek out with Python experts and enthusiasts. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsor J. P. Morgan, we are able to host the event free of charge. (However, we do require that all participants RSVP, so we don't overfill the space!)

Everyone will be on their own for lunch and can choose between many nearby restaurant options.

Possible topics for discussion and hacking:

  • Hadoop & Python: what works and what doesn't
  • Emerging technologies for machine learning
  • Tools & techniques for web visualization
  • Bio/genomics deep dive
  • Python & finance BoF
  • Python and traditional Data Warehouses

Add your topic to the wiki page here: Hackathon/Workshop Wiki

The hack-a-thon will be held at the offices of J.P. Morgan, located at 383 Madison Ave. To gain access, all attendees will need to have a picture ID with a full printed name on it – unfortunately no exceptions can be made.

We will begin at 9:00am in the auditorium on the 2nd floor. After introductions and room assignments we will move to 10 break-out rooms on the 13th floor to work on specific tasks and meet-up groups: (13/A, 13/F, 13/G, 13/H, 13/J, 13/M, 13/O, 13/P, 13/S, 13/T)

At 2:00 we will meet back in the auditorium on the 2nd floor for follow-up and final discussions.
