Nipun Batra

Nipun Batra is a postdoctoral researcher at University of Virginia working with Kamin Whitehouse and Hongning Wang. Prior to that he completed his PhD. from IIIT Delhi advised by Amarjeet Singh and Pushpendra Singh (both IIIT Delhi) and Kamin Whitehouse (University of Virginia). He broadly work on computational sustainability problems and smarthome applications.

He has been using Python since 2008. He created the ground control station for the UAV project during his UG days at Delhi College of Engineering. He was the head TA in the introduction to programming course (taught in Python) taught at IIIT Delhi, where he designed the course. His teaching was often appreciated in the course.

During his PhD, he extensively used Python to build systems for data collection, visualisation and analysis. His open source research toolkit called NILMTK, written in Python has been very well received by the research community and has cited more than 100 times in less than 3 years.
