Dash: data exploration web apps in pure Python

Chelsea Douglas

Audience level:
Intermediate

Description

This talk introduces Dash, an open-source library for building interactive data exploration web apps in pure Python. With Dash, scientists, engineers, analysts and other Python developers can build apps for themselves, their colleagues and their customers to visually explore, understand and monitor diverse data sets. We will cover Dash basics by building up a sample application from scratch.

Abstract

Working with data often entails a lot of iterative exploration, and what better way to do that than an interactive, highly visual web application? Similarly, the final stage of many data projects involves communication with people outside the project, who appreciate being able to interact with the data or results of the analysis. One major problem with this is that building web applications seems to require a different skill-set than data science.

This talk introduces Dash, an open-source library for building interactive data exploration web apps in pure Python. It is intended for any intermediate Python developer or data scientist who would like to quickly build interactive data exploration web apps without needing to know anything about Javascript or CSS. I will introduce the Dash library and how it works by showing various apps that people have built, and then building up an app from scratch, so that attendees will walk away with the confidence to build their own apps right away.
