Laura Lorenz

Laura first started programming in undergrad by using Python to manage autonomous computations while studying bacterial genomics. She now works as a data and software engineer at Industry Dive, implementing and operating diverse solutions with both the data and web team using Python tools and frameworks such as Django, Flask, Airflow, pandas, and scikit-learn. As a faculty member at District Data Labs, she pursues her interest in open source data science libraries through contributions to DDL projects such as baleen and yellowbrick, and her interest in novel data science research as a member of a research lab focusing on improving distributed vector representations of natural language by integrating gensim's word2vec implementation with Semantic Web data. She is an advocate of technology literacy, teaching workshops, webinars, and classes on programming and web development for Georgetown University and District Data Labs.
