Dr. Mehrdad Yazdani is a research scientist and specializes in scientific computing as it relates to data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Currently he is at the Qualcomm Institute at UC San Diego working with Lev Manovich and Larry Smarr, developing and applying machine learning techniques to the analysis of social media and health data sets. Previously Yazdani worked with Robert Hecht-Nielsen on theoretical neuroscience and optimal control. He has also worked on developing optimization algorithms, neural networks, and music information retrieval systems. Yazdani earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UC San Diego in 2012.
