Asyncio is a different way to think about how you program. In this talk we will talk about using asyncio to consume data from a bitcoin exchange offering a websocket endpoint.

• We will explain what an event loop is, how you can use the asyncio module to create an event loop;
• We will explain what websockets are, why are they (usually) better than their synchronous counterpart;
• We will show a new asyncio-compatible driver for the database most loved by the PyData community, PostgreSQL (asyncpg);
• Finally we will tie it all together to fetch data from the websocket offered by GDAX, a large crypto exchange;
• If time allows, we will also take a look at TimescaleDB for storing ticker data, and what kind of high level function it offers to simplify application logic.
