Conference Overview

We welcome attendees with wide varieties of experiences, expertise, and backgrounds to join us at the Ampersand Studios on September 22, 2022. Users, contributors, and newcomers can share experiences and learn from one another to solve hard problems and grow a stronger open-source community.

About PyData

PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. PyData provides a forum for the international community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The global PyData network promotes discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. PyData communities approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R.

We aim to be an accessible, community-driven conference, with novice to advanced level presentations. PyData tutorials and talks bring attendees the latest project features along with cutting-edge use cases.

NumFOCUS

The mission of NumFOCUS is to promote sustainable high-level programming languages, open code development, and reproducible scientific research. We accomplish this mission through our educational programs and events as well as through fiscal sponsorship of open source scientific computing projects. We aim to increase collaboration and communication within the data science and scientific computing community.

NumFOCUS is a 501(c)3 public charity in the United States.

Mark started joining data meetup groups in the Miami area after moving here in 2015, and has contributed to the community by offering his time and talents to make events like PyData Miami 2022 happen.

Samina Trachier joined NumFOCUS in 2021 as an Events & Digital Marketing Coordinator. Before joining NumFOCUS, Samina was active in the Austin, TX events industry and acted as the Media Communications Coordinator for The OpenAir Collective. She’s a graduate of New York University where she received a BFA in Game Design.

Teodor Georgiev is a data scientist for Gistia Healthcare. He has almost 10 years of experience in the field. He is passionate about improving data-literacy, and thus organizes PyData Miami. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida where he also automated image processing for the Interdisciplinary Microsystems Group. This is where his journey into data science began.

Jacob is the founder of Leaky.AI, a company devoted to helping students learn A.I. coding skills. He has spent the last 5 years teaching and mentoring students in A.I. and has over 20 years of enterprise software development experience. He was the Sr. Director of Product Management at Cisco Systems and also held executive positions at VMware and start-ups in the bay area. Jacob has a M.S. in E.E. from Stanford University and a graduate from Stanford’s GSB Executive program.

Sean is an Assistant Research Professor of Big Data Analytics and Cybersecurity at the University of Central Florida's Institute of Simulation and Training. His research specialties include machine learning and big data analytics, autonomous agent decision-making, high-performance computing for simulation-based training and education, and real-time predictive modeling of large, dynamic systems.

Rashida is a data analyst at Davey Resource Group. Rashida is author, and engineer experienced in Data Analysis, Visualization, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, SQL, and BigQuery. She analyzes data and develops mathematical models. Rashida started as a Civil Engineer. She worked for 5 years in the construction industry and earned an M.S. in the Environment Management and Environmental Engineering. She also worked as a research assistant for three years which sparked her interest in data science, and she completed her M.S. in Applied Data Analytics.

James Devalon is the founder of Devalon Fitness and the co-founder of performance weight management. He has been working in the fitness/wellness industry for 20-plus years. Throughout his journey, he has been able to help the members of his community improve their health and wellness through data-driven strategies, mindfulness, and functional fitness. As a former firefighter/paramedic helping others in their times of need has been a lifelong mission. Currently, his primary focus is bridging the gap between the science of training and mindfulness. Our mission at Devalon Fitness is to help individuals build healthy habits, and improve energy, sleep quality, productivity and nutrition through fitness and mindset training.
